Manta general router and MIDI router
click the attachment to this thread for the new v.7 of the MIDIrouter. It fixes a potential problem with the CC routing and add the ability to select local LED control.

Here's a patch I worked up. It lets you associate several numbers with the manta sensors, and save these numbers patterns as presets for later recall. I've included an example patch using them, which allows you to route MIDI data to other software, like DP, Logic, Live, etc.

Post any questions about this patch to this thread.

-Jeff

edit: I upadated this patch from v.5 to v.7

RE: Manta general router and MIDI router
i'm using max/MSP runtime. i can't seem to get any sort of midi signal out to my DAW or any stand-alone synths. i'm sure my patching is correct (for now just the basic IAC bus routing), as I have no problem getting signal into logic from my monome in a similar fashion through runtime.

I also get indication that my manta is connected in the max log.

DAC is on.

I bounced the output to the DLS synth to see if I could at least get it to trigger any tone at all--still no luck.

Is there something I need to tweak to send out midi note data that I'm not seeing here? I'm taking a break for now, but will hopefully get back tonight to figure this one out. Help is greatly appreciated, even a basic startup walk through to get me off and running.

My feeling is that I'm just missing something simple, but I've been looking for a while now...

RE: Manta general router and MIDI router
i opened up a demo of max/msp to run further checks.

from within miditester, i get information sent to my destination app (in this case, circle) across IAC bus 1 no problem (makes sense given my using max similarly for some time now with monome, etc.).

i also see the monome within my max log as connected (#15). in honeycomb, i get lit keys upon contact (sliders and buttons too) so it would seem that i can send and receive data?

so my issue seems to be somewhere between the manta connection and the final interface with other applications--no midi note generation going on within either this or honeycomb even though it seems the manta is visually responding to my contact and my max -> iac patch checks out fine.

anybody care to help me get going on this journey and away from banging my head?

RE: Manta general router and MIDI router
Hi,
Try using "From Max/MSP 1" as the routing destination and see if that helps...

another possible problem -- it could be that the manta isn't "opened"
things to check:
in my MIDI router patch, make sure that you've click the big pink button at the top of the patch (which sends the open message to the manta). Do you see numbers changing in the number boxes?
in Vlad's Honeycomb patch, verify that the hexagons on the screen light up when you press the sensors.

RE: Manta general router and MIDI router
when i press the pink button, my max dialogue tells me

manta~ -- interface object for the Snyderphonics Manta, v. 0.95
attached manta, serial number: 15

but in the actual interface, the colored boxes, i get no number changes when i touch the manta (is that what you're asking).

same with in honeycomb, no lights on the screen (only on the manta).

what do i need to do to open it?
DSP was off, punched it on and everything was fine.

works beautifully!

RE: Manta general router and MIDI router
Has anyone else noticed a delay after manta-routerMIDI has been running more than a couple of hours?

It runs fine, then I take a break for a meal or some family time and when I come back there's a noticeable delay/latency between key presses and midi data reaching my host. (LIVE)

Quitting Max and reloading the patch fixes it, but I wonder what is causing that.

Thanks and an amazing work you've done here!

RE: Manta general router and MIDI router
hmmm, this sounds similar to a problem another user reported after using the MIDI-router patch for a while. Do you have the same problem with the Hexagon patch that Vlad made? That would help narrow down whether it's a bug in the patch or in the object itself -- like some kind of memory leak going on.

I'll give honeycomb a try for a while and let you know. And for what it's worth, just re-clicking on the 'click this button to connect to the manta...' seems to reset it and 'repair', get rid of the delay. Thanks,

dadek

hmmm -
I'll have to think about why that might be. Let me know if you get any more information about the problem.

RE: Manta general router and MIDI router
Well Honeycomb didn't do it, it's just when using the Manta General and Midi Router. Thanks.
